UpSchool Data ("UpSchool," "we," "us") is operated by Lighthouse Resources LLC. We provide a school-data platform that schools use for assessments, scheduling, and staff and parent notifications, including SMS text messaging. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.
Who this policy covers
Our customers are schools. Schools use UpSchool to manage information about their staff (teachers and therapists), students, and students' parents or guardians. Each school controls the data it enters into the platform and is responsible for its own legal obligations to its community.
Information we collect
- School account data: school name, administrator names, email addresses, and login credentials.
- Staff and parent contact data: names, phone numbers, and email addresses that schools add so they can schedule sessions and send notifications.
- Student data: student names and related school records a school enters for assessments and scheduling. We collect only what a school chooses to enter.
- Usage data: basic technical logs (sign-ins, feature use, errors) needed to run and secure the service.
How we use information
- To provide the platform: assessments, scheduling, session reminders, appointment confirmations, and school notifications.
- To send SMS text messages on behalf of a school to that school's opted-in staff and parents.
- To operate, secure, and improve the service, and to support our school customers.
We use information only to provide the service to schools. We do not use student data for advertising, and we do not build marketing profiles from school data.
SMS / text messaging data
When a school adds a staff member or parent, UpSchool sends one text message asking that person to opt in by replying START. Only contacts who reply START receive further messages. Reply STOP at any time to opt out, or HELP for help. Message frequency varies with school activity. Message and data rates may apply. See how the opt-in flow works.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. We never sell SMS opt-in data, phone numbers, or consent records.
Student data and FERPA
Schools own their data. For student education records, UpSchool acts as a "school official" with a legitimate educational interest under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), performing a service the school would otherwise perform itself. We handle student data only under the school's direction and only to provide the contracted service. We do not disclose student education records except as the school directs or as required by law.
Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell personal information. We share data only in these cases:
- Service providers: vendors that help us run the platform (for example, hosting and SMS delivery providers), bound by contract to use data only to serve us and to protect it.
- School-directed sharing: when a school uses the platform to share information with its own staff and parents.
- Legal requirements: when required by law, subpoena, or to protect safety, rights, and security.
Data security and retention
We use industry-standard safeguards including encrypted connections, access controls, and least-privilege internal access. We retain data for as long as a school's account is active and as needed to provide the service. When a school asks us to delete data or closes its account, we delete or de-identify it within a reasonable period, except where law requires retention.
Children's privacy
The platform is operated by schools and school staff, not by children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children; student information is entered and managed by the school.
Your choices
- SMS: reply STOP to any message to opt out, or HELP for help.
- School data: contact your school to review or correct information it holds about you in UpSchool. Schools can also contact us directly.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and post the new version at this address. Material changes will be communicated to school customers.
