UpSchool SMS Notifications - How Schools' Text Messages Work
UpSchool Data sends SMS notifications on behalf of our client schools to school staff (teachers and therapists) and to parents of students. Messages include scheduling updates, appointment confirmations, and school notifications such as weather closures.
How someone gets signed up (opt-in)
- A school administrator adds the staff member or parent to the school's contact list in UpSchoolData. Their status is set to "not yet asked".
- Each new contact automatically receives ONE text message asking if they would like to receive SMS notifications from their school. The message reads:
[school_name] would like to send you text messages via UpSchool. Reply START to opt in.
Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Msg & data rates may apply.
- Only contacts who reply START are marked as opted in and receive further messages. Contacts who ignore the message or reply STOP are marked as opted out and never receive further messages.
The full exchange: the opt-in ask, the START reply, and the confirmation message.
Confirmation message
After opting in, the contact receives this confirmation:
Thank you for opting in to receive messages from [school_name]. Msg & data rates may
apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time, HELP for help.
Opting out and help
- Reply STOP to any message at any time to stop all messages.
- Reply HELP for assistance.
- Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies with school activity.
